Transporter 2 January 31, 2006

Fighting - Hooyeah!
Guns - Hellyeah!
Car chases - Ohyeah!
Girls - Ohrather!

Sorry, after the flack I took about “The Notebook”, I had to start off that way as clearly my manhood had been challenged. I did enjoy Transporter 2 though. Not as good as the first one (Sequels rarely are!) but still a re-watcher. Some parts were WAY over the top, like when he removed the bomb from under his car, but all in all the fight sequences and the car chases were awesome! After I finished watching it I downed my beer, belched out loud and …

The Notebook

Another movie weekend. This time Robin picked out most of the titles. On Sunday, I got sucked into the movie “The Notebook”. This is definitely one for the girls. Guys, if you are looking for guns, car races and fighting, look away.

Ok, I do have to admit, that it was a very good movie. Girls if you like to cry, go get this and a truck load of tissues. In Robin’s own words, “this is the greatest love story ever told. “. It’s set in the late 1940’s and 50’s, …

The Service Racket January 30, 2006

It’s been an interesting weekend of revelations. From hearing about my mothers cable vision woes, to airline prices, to even my step-daughters admission into private school (Wait for this one. It needs an entry all to itself).

Is it me, or are you tired of being completely screwed, just for the privilege of living in paradise? Ok, pretty harsh, and don’t get me wrong. I love Bermuda, always have, always will. What I don’t like is when companies take advantage of us Islanders, similar to the protection racket of the 40’s and 50’s Mob …

Father’s Log - Week 27 January 28, 2006

Well another week as gone by, and thankfully no more weird cravings to speak of. Food is now being delivered to the house by the truck load though. I’m now seeing a new effect of the pregnancy called “Nesting”. It’s started with an urge to constantly look for baby stuff for the room, which goes beyond being prepared to actually being obsessed about it. My desk is now littered with printouts of little beds in every shade of pink. (Trust me, now is the time to buy stock in Amazon, cause Robin is about …

Here we go again January 25, 2006

So, we have another developer interested in the Club Med property. I truly hope this one comes through, however with the past experiences; I’m left with the impression that this will be another non-starter.

Maybe we need to start thinking outside the box for this property. Clearly a traditional hotel at this site isn’t working, or at least the concept hasn’t in the past, however we clearly need something to attract tourist for this ailing industry.

Just begging for it!

Most people have heard of the Darwin Awards by now. I believe I just found another possible entry. We should all probably keep our eye on Tim Pickins for creating a rocket bike which can go from 0 to 60 in five seconds! That’s a better take off than a Porsche!

I can maybe understand Tim’s thrill in wishing to experience what it’s like to virtually have a 200 pound rocket strapped to ones ass, but did he and CNN have to go and explain how it’s integrated with the bike and even brag …

Bad news for Blackberry January 24, 2006

RIM, the makers of Blackberry, those annoying email/cell phone devices that almost everyone has which make it look like people are holding a plate to their ear, has been undergoing a patent infringement case against them since 2001. Yesterday the courts ruled against them, which doesn’t bode well for RIM. Ultimately this could lead to a blackout in service until an agreement is reached, or even worse a permanent shutdown of the blackberry service itself.

While I’ve never been a fan of blackberry, mostly the design of the actual device as users who have to …

The pain of ordering online January 23, 2006

Has anyone else noticed that since the 9/11 tragedy, ordering online and shipping to Bermuda is like pulling teeth? I would personally like to put my foot up Osama’s ass for this little pleasure he’s brought into our lives, along with the many others (longer waits in airports, and the 256 terror alert colours in the States to name a few). I find that the United States are being a little over paranoid as they are clamping down on technologies being exported. Not just technologies like guidance controls for missiles, but your average ordinary things as well. …

The Skeleton Key

It was definitely a movie weekend. To cap off the night, we curled up to the suspense thriller The Skeleton Key. Pretty good movie, although I expected it to be a bit scarier than what it was. Nice twist at the end, definitely NOT a Disney film! Kate Hudson however pretty much deserved what she got. Did she not watch the old Scooby Doo cartoons. Hello?

Points to note however:

Never dust yourself into a corner
Chicken bones make a hell of a wind chime
Never piss off anyone into the voodoo arts
If an empty …

Looking too damn hard January 22, 2006

I was perusing the Mid-Ocean News today, and came across an interesting headline White man is still afraid of the dark by Alvin Williams

Already I can hear some people groan, I know I did, however I thought I’d give it a read. After reading I felt compelled to write this entry.

This weeks commentary is in response to a previous weeks one, where Alvin asks what he, as a black Bermudian, has in common with white Bermudians. This weeks lettters to the editor have been rife with responses to his questions. I find Alvin is a …
