Bank refused it’s building March 30, 2006
Wow, I actually thought that they were going to let it happen, but the DAB has refused the Bank of Bermuda (HSBC) permission to build a monstrous 7 story building where the former department stores of Triminghams and Smiths used to be. Finally common sense prevails over the almighty dollar. I believe that the bank may take this to the appeals court to get this ruling overturned, so it’s not finished yet.
Probably the worst spot in Bermuda for a high rise, right in the middle of a traffic congested area, this building will stick out like a sore thumb, in comparison to all the rest of the building along the same front line. At the same point we will need to maximise on space, which will eventually mean higher buildings, but if we landscape it, with the 2 or 3 story department stores on Front street and progress with the larger buildings going towards the back of town, Hamilton would look a lot more attractive.
Mind you, if turned down, what do you think this real estate should be utilised for?
