Discipline in school March 30, 2006
Behaviour in school was once again brought to light when a student said out loud “Go tell them to suck my balls” , them refering to a teacher, and then a 14 year old punched a deputy principal, I have to ask myself, what in the world is going on?
I know when I was a child, not only would the punishment at school been severe, but heaven helped me when I got home. Being the product of seperated parents, and anyone who has separated parents will agree with me, punishments were by a factor of two. First my Mom would punish me, then she’d tell my father, which means that when I saw him, I would get it all over again. This usually kept me in line most of the times, so what’s happening with today’s parents?
I also feel that too much power has been taken away from the teachers, while I don’t condone other people spanking my child, that’s a parents chore and no one else’s, the teachers should have some form of disciplinary action available to them.
I will say this, if I ever found out that either one of my children said “Go suck my balls” to a teacher, or any adult for that matter (Mind you, they are girls so that would never come out of their mouths, but you get my drift), I would happily instruct the principal to detain them in the office with a bar of soap between their teeth waiting until I get there, which is when the discipline will actually start. Yes I am a parent who believes in spanking, although spanking is a last resort and is more of an attention grabber. You never spank in anger (Give them a time out and then leave the room if you are angry), and you never have your hand more than 4 inches off the skin, always open hand and never with a fist obviously. I believe in the old school fashion of bringing up your children, cause to be honest, it worked. Just ask your parents if they had discipline problems like this when they went to school. Sometimes the old ways are the best ways, tried and true.
