Fair Fight? July 7, 2006
I read with dismay about the fight outside of Docksiders, which involved a Portuguese father and 4 black Bermudian men. I had heard about the flag burning incident, but didn’t hear that a Portuguese fan had been beaten to near death due to it. I served in the regiment with Rui Maderios, and lets just say that he’s not the type of person to cause a disturbance. I was surprised and angered to find out that it was he who took the beating from behind, in true coward fashion, by these 4 men. What’s really shameful about the actions of “men” like these is that they are all brave when they travel in their little packs, but you get them one on one and it’s a completely different story. You rarely hear about a fight breaking out between just two men, but rather it’s 1 person facing 3 and 4 people at a time. Just as with your common household dog, their confidence is only bolstered by support from the rest of the pack, in other words, one on one they wouldn’t dare carry on like this, for the simple fact as stated above, they are cowards.
What really bothers me is, where in the hell were the bar bouncers at the time? As this happened on the premises of Docksiders, then the responsibility should partially fall on the owners of the bar. Also disturbing is that apparently no one came to his aid. As the bouncers were amiss, and apparently the police were no where to be around, I would suggest that next time you see someone being ganged up on, EVERYONE there should get involved, to the point where you make them run all the way back to where they came from. If we can’t get enough support from the police, then may be the people in society need to make a stand themselves and confront these cowards head on.
Update: Politics.bm has astory on our Alex Scott linking this to independence in his adjourning comments on Friday’s Parliment session. I’d say that Alex Scott was the great spin doctor, but he’s not. A good spin doctor would link issues in a way that made common sense. Alex’s arguments for independence are becoming quite a stretch as of late, and he’s using every little angle, ridiculous or not, in order to get the word independence in it. This case is the worst so far, and his idiot ramblings do absolutely nothing to further his cause for independence, quite the opposite in fact. This time I’m reminded of a little tune…..”My baloney has a first name, it’s A-L-E-X. My baloney has a second name……”
