A father’s log - New tricks, new schools September 14, 2006
It’s been quite awhile since I wrote A Father’s Log, lots been going on as of late for me to write about personal things. First off, Samantha is doing great! She’s growing like a weed. She’s had a ton of first experiences since I last wrote though.
First day at nursery
Well it was bound to happen, Robin’s maternity leave finally ran out and we had to give up Samantha to the care of someone else. Of course the parents always take these things much worse than the children. As far as Samantha was concerned it was much more exciting than being at home as there was many new things to see and many new children to watch, as she’s seen everything in our house a dozen times. She loves it there though and I’ve spent a lunch time or two visiting and holding her.
First Cold
Well as any parent would tell you, nursery schools mean colds, and Sam was bound to get one. The poor site was sneezing and coughing up a storm and my first reaction was to get mad at which ever parent brought their child to the nursery with a cold and infect Sam with it. She was a bit down for one day, but would manage a smile when I came into the room. She’s still got a bit of a cough, but she’s bounced back to her old self again.
First Conversation
Samantha has started to talk, not actual people words, but rather the cooing and sounds that a baby makes when she’s trying to imitate people talking. We, even Tianna, always reply back to her with “Really?” or “You don’t say!”, which prompts her to chat some more.
First Friend
Sam was getting bored in the pumpkin seat and would let us know by screaming her head off about it. So my mom saw one of her little stuffed animals and attached it to the handle of her pumpkin seat. It hangs above and in front of her and wiggles around as the car moves, with a big smiling face to boot. Sam would look around and then suddenly spot her friend, break out in a big smile (dimple and all) and then start chatting up a storm, in baby talk of course. This keeps her pretty occupied as she obviously has a lot to talk about.
First Feet
Samantha is at the stage where she’s not only found her feet, but has now realised she can reach over and grab them and bring them to her face. This is yet another obstacle to get around when trying to pick her up or change her diaper, much to Samantha’s amusement.
First Trick
Yesterday, when I had to pick up Samantha on my lunch hour, I heard her sucking on something. I quickly turned around expecting to find her hand in her mouth again, when I noticed that she was sucking her lip/gums. After awhile she learned that if she sucked in her lip, making the smacking noise, she could then blow it back out making the small farting noise. She then proceeded to do this for about 10 minutes, smack-fart-smack-fart-smack-fart. It was the funniest thing I’ve heard or seen in awhile. After work I picked up Robin and Tianna and told her about Samantha’s new trick. I turned to Samantha and sucked my lip, making the smacking noise again. This instantly set off Samantha into another 10 minutes of the smack-fart game. Luckily we had the camera with us (Unfortunately it wasn’t the one that records sound as well) so I’ve posted it below so you can see her doing in for yourself.
I’m so proud!
