So long Digihell! December 17, 2006
It finally had to happen. After over a year of having weak signal strength at various points on the Island, dropped calls and constant failures whenever an “upgrade” occurred I finally gave up my Digicel account and moved to M3 Wireless. One of the things that has kept me at Digicel was the fact that changing your phone number is a pain in the butt, but at some point something has got to give.
I had been with Digicel since it was Telecom, then became AT&T, next Cingular and finally it’s current manifestation. Being patient with technology as I am, I always allowed for bug fix times but one thing I refuse to put up with is poor customer service. My phone; granted it’s not one of their designated phones, was working happily on their network, when I was told to come in and swap out my SIM card which proudly displayed AT&T. Since then I have been unable to get any data connection, which is necessary for my job so I can get my emails when I’m in the field. I finally went in and dealt with a very patient customer service rep who tried to work with me. While the phone could connect to their data service, nothing would come across. I left there and proceeded to try everything I could think of, all to know avail.
The next day I called back just to ensure that my account, which needed to be completely redone the previous day, was setup correctly as a last ditch effort. I was greeted by someone who was abrupt and borderline rude to the point where I was to made to feel like I was bothering her. The attitude had the opposite effect on me and instead of being made to feel put in my place, I felt angry. I calmly wished her a good day; I refuse to sink to levels below me, and marched right up to M3. There I explained that if they can show me that I can get data on their network, I would sign up right there and then. The two people that attended to me were not only helpful, but extremely pleasant (I wish I had gotten their names, as I would have happily posted them here), this in the face of an extremely long queue of people and an obviously busy day. After 10 minutes, my phone finally received it’s first email in about a month; I immediately opened up an account.
So who’s had any other experiences with any of the other carriers, either good or bad?
