Do as we say….. December 27, 2006

While driving home tonight, I heard something on the news that made me almost choke. After being preached to about gambling and its immoral implications on society as a whole, Bermuda is going to host the Poker Championship Games! I really can’t make this stuff up!

Wow, how completely hypocritical! This after closing the various casino’s on the Island and locking people up.

I guess it’s ok for gambling to come here as long as it’s a televised event that brings prestige to the Island. On that note, I’m going to write to the Las Vegas Pole Dancing Organisation to see if they can hold their competition on a monthly basis here.

I’m also extremely worried that the ability to view actual adults on the TV enjoying a very sinful game of poker may prompt our youths into experimenting with card playing themselves, which of course will lead them down the slippery slope of debauchery. It all starts with solitaire on the computers, next crazy eights, then old maid (note the subtle sexual connotation the game implies) and shortly after is rummy (Even the name suggests it should be played with alcohol). Our innocent children end up getting into poker playing with matches. MATCHES! How many times have we warned children to never play with matches?!? These are the same “innocent” children who grow up, never able to break the habit that ruined their lives. You will see them in their twilight years, wondering what happened to their ruined lives while engaging in the worst form of filth there is….Canasta. Surely this must be stopped!

It’s not poker, it’s Extreme Bingo…

My boyfriend made a point….maybe the organisers are PLATINUM GUESTS for the Premiers Gala Event….surely that would make them exempt from certain laws;) This is still “The NEW Bermuda”…..

How sad to see that locals have one set of laws and non locals have others…..

Actually just read the details and have to say it is perfectly legal as they are only WINNING PRIZES not MONEY….this makes it legal…oh well maybe they are not attending the Premiers Ball after all….

If they are ‘winning’ prizes…. what are they wagering?

6. FO - December 28, 2006

Nothing they are paying an entry fee to play/learn….this is included in the $999.00 per person package deal I am sure

Ok so another do as I say not as I do….they are now going to allow Harley Davidsons on the island off of Cruise ships….So our roads are not congested enough already???? Come on now….and then they are going to park them and go off exploring…isn’t cycle theft one of the biggest forms of theft on the island???

Sure I may sound a little cynical but on one hand they are looking at ways to reduce traffic congestion ( I am waiting to be told what days I will be permitted to drive because I am sure that this is one of there bright suggestions) and on the other they are going to allow a group of cyclists who are not used to our narrow winding roads to come here and ride bikes with engines larger than those ridden by our police force…..I see liability suits waiting to happen! It sends the message that laws can be bent for some and must be adhered to by others…..Don’t even get me started on the new seven star hotel development in todays paper…….

People used to ask me where Not The Um Um got all their material. I always said that all you have to do is listen.

Meanwhile, the Palace has been closed for 35 days.
