Boston May 15, 2007
Finally back from a quick weekend in Boston. This trip has been a long time in the coming, which was postponed twice due to work, and it was exactly what the doctor ordered for a de-stress. Robin and I went up sans kids, this was my first time away from Sam so it was pretty difficult at first. However it was our 2 year anniversary this weekend, so a surprise was in order for my wife.
I have to say that all in all, I prefer Boston to NYC anyday. It’s a much cleaner city, it’s easier to get around, the people are generally friendlier and the prices are lower.
Just a few pointers however.
1. Food proportions - You have GOT to be kidding me. Appetizers generally have the same mass as a full sized dinner. Dinners have the same amount of food as a normal breakfast, lunch and dinner and desserts are just ridiculous. For example; we went to the new Steak House chain called Smith and Wollensky. Hands down, the best steak I’ve ever had, however the salad came in a bowl that I could almost sit in, the steak had to be at least 40 ounces and the side orders I could barely touch. When it came to dessert, both Robin and I just laughed at the waiter. It’s a good thing to, as the only one I was semi-interested in, a chocolate mouse cake, towered at 5 layers and was about the size of my head. I don’t think I could eat that much cake in a week. It’s a pity as all I could think about was the waisted food.
2. The Boston Aquarium - Took a trip there one afternoon. It terms of size it’s pretty impressive, however when it came down to displays and presentations, our own BAMZ can easily hold it’s own here. I first when to the Boston Aquarium about 14 years ago, unfortunately it has degraded somewhat, which is a pity as it’s an amazing facility.
3. Tomb - We went and saw Tomb, which is an interactive production based on how an ancient Egyptian tomb was discovered in Boston. They had the right idea, but unfortunately it had more cheese than Holland. I don’t recommend seeing this at all.
4. SpiderMan 3 - Ok this has no reflection on Boston, however one of my goals was to see this movie on a real big screen. Fortunately Boston provided the setting, unfortuantely the directors, writers and producers of Spiderman 3 did not provide a plot. It had some interesting action scenes, but I have to say this….WTF is with the dance routine? Even my wife was like “What the hell?!?”. Stan Lee, what were you thinking man?
All in all a good trip and well worth it, but it’s good to be home….
