Vote for us, PLEASE! December 1, 2007
Wow, Dr. Brown can’t buy a break from his on PLP inner sanctum. Alex Scott hit the Bermuda Sun with an interview that pretty much translated into, yeah I know you don’t like the way we’ve been doing things, or the way we legislate or that you don’t like our leader, but please please, pretty please vote for the PLP.
Now call me crazy here, but aren’t you supposed to sway voters with the things that your party has been doing; up to and including your leadership which is supposed to be the crem della crem, the best, brightest and most well received of the party? Rather, Alex Scott would have you vote PLP inspite of internal and external issues they face which is obviously turning many supporters away with a promise that what you see before you can be changed, the leadership, the party platform, etc.
Now call me crazy again, but isn’t this what happened back in 2003 when the PLP leadership, platform and direction changed literally hours after they were voted in? What Alex Scott fails to grasp here is that people vote for a particular party, or person based on track record, personalities and platform PRIOR to an election. As the saying goes, fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. Fooled is exactly what happened to the slim majority of the electorate back in 2003 with that infamous speech by the now current leader of the PLP when he said “We had to mislead you”. Suffice to say that the electorate do not want to be misled. People want to know that what they vote for is what they get, otherwise they have waisted their primary democratic right , their right to vote, to guide Bermuda in the direction they feel best suits them and the country as a whole. Effectively, what happened in 2003 made a mockery of everyone who voted for the PLP. Why would they want to knowingly be misled again?
