Talk Show Lemmings May 29, 2008
The radio station FM 89.1 has switched from piping in an overseas station to a VSB station and as such we now have another talk radio show on the FM band in the afternoons. Good or a bad thing, I’m not sure yet as I like to listen to my radio in the car traveling to my next job. Curiosity got the best of me today so I tuned in. On the topic was about what has been going on in Parlament as of late and the breakdown of democracy and accountability, a hot topic to say the least.
The majority of callers in the 30 minutes I was listening were avid PLP supporters who were hell bent on supporting the actions of the Speaker of the House and The Premier. In their vocal monologue of verbal back patting defense was raised for the current Government, most of the callers entirely dismissed the idea that any corruption or cover up is occurring in the government and that if you want to find out, do some investigating for themselves.
But the obvious point of the issue which they missed entirely was how can you investigate a matter when questions are dismissed or unanswered, facts are not revealed and information is essentially for a very limited few. These narrow minded few are content to put their entire trust and faith in a Government who are not forth coming with the facts, but resort to delay tactics and hide behind any rules, bent or otherwise they can to avoid answering the question. They fail to realise that it is, not only your right, but your DUTY to question your government officials, regardless of what side of the political fence you are on. I wonder if those callers are going to be lemmings their whole life; consistently following without question what their political leaders say, until of course the day they are asked to jump off a cliff.
